As we live in the time with flood of smart phones with various lucrative OS like android, apple or windows but we cannot help missing Nokia Symbian as now day’s smart phones seems to be lacking in the few of the areas.
1. Amazing PC suit software: Beside of very easy backup of contacts and SMS's by Nokia PC Suite software we could control the SMS and Contacts from PC in real time. SMS sending could be done directly from the PC Suite and contacts could be updated when phone connected with PC by blue tooth or data cable. Still no Smartphone OS is able to provide such PC suite software.
2. Customized profiles easy to switch: Beside of the general profile there were various profiles like silent, meeting, outdoor, pager and offline and we could set these by pressing single button and selecting suitable profile.
3. Timed profiles: Normally we forget to switch back to normal profile after finishing the meeting. We could do it automatically by using times profile. Suppose you are in meeting till 13:00 and have the set meeting profile to expire at 13:00 then it will automatically bring back to general or outdoor profile.
4. Ring once tone: It was tone built in with Nokia Symbian Smartphone’s to avoid the disturbance in the religious gatherings, meetings or some special occasions. When ringtone tone was set in a profile and profile was activated then for incoming calls and SMS it used to ring once but screen was showing the indication of incoming call.
5. Long Battery life: Quick battery drain is a normal drawback of the so called smart phones now a days and Symbian phones used to have a long battery discharge time. Even heavy users of voice data could expect to go two days without charging. This is my personal experience with Nokia E71 and Nokia E5.
With a little workaround and modification , Symbian could have been one of the most competent Smartphone OS of the time but it is no more used in the new smartphones we could not help to miss the unique features and user friendly interface if Nokia Symbian.
kindly share your view if you miss nokia symbian.
